We live in a world of distractions, where the past and the future are constantly vying for our attention. We constantly struggle to find balance between our present and our past or future, and the result is that we often feel overwhelmed and disconnected from the present moment.
This morning, I called one of my dearest friends in the Philippines, Janelle to wish her a joyous New Year and to catch up about our lives. I asked her what she hopes to accomplish this year and she spoke about living an intentional life. That reminded me of my goal last year that I still try my best to practice today.
Living an intentional life has been one of the most life changing experiences the past year. It has led me to take a step back and think deeply about what I really want out of life, and how I can make that happen. It has given me the courage to make changes, prioritize my values, and live with intention. It has taught me to be mindful of my decisions and to make choices that are in alignment with my values. It has enabled me to focus on the present and make the most of every moment.
It wasn’t perfect and although I am a very unorganized, have ADD and can be a chronic procrastinator, I have still managed to find ways to make things work for me – and it’s not always easy as 123. It takes a lot of focus and determination to complete a task and even more to stick to it. On the plus side, my spontaneity and inability to stay organized also comes with its own rewards. I’m not just someone who loves to be spontaneous, but it’s something that I’ve learned to embrace and enjoy.
I know I needed balance, and though it may seem daunting, it is not impossible to achieve. Instead of just resigning myself to my fate, I firmly believe that we all have the potential to make positive changes if we so desire. After all, if we don’t take action and break out of our unhealthy patterns, we’re in danger of merely wasting our lives away.
Living intentionally helped me take the time to think about what I really want in life, and then act on it. Instead of just drifting through life, it guided me to take the time to plan and make decisions that are in line with what I truly want to accomplish.
While navigating the challenging aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic at work, I was determined to stay motivated and hone my craft. So I threw myself into any project, large or small, with the intention to make the most of the situation and live an intentional life. Despite the difficult, unmotivated season, I stayed focused on my goals and persevered.
In August, as we came back from summer break. I never thought I’d be standing in front of the Patana staff to be recognised as one of their ‘Unsung Heroes’. The past two years have been a wild ride, but I’m thankful for the experiences and knowledge I’ve gained along the way. Being behind the camera taking videos and photos has been an incredible journey, and I’m so thankful for the recognition I’ve received.
Something that I noticed about myself living an intentional life is that it helped me to become more self-aware. By taking the time to reflect and evaluate what matters to me, I can gain a better understanding of myself and my goals. This helped me make more informed decisions and take steps that are in line with my values and desires.
During the COVID-19 lockdowns, my love for wildlife photography flourished. I had always wanted to explore the art, but hesitated due to the lack of focus and dedication I felt towards it. However, I knew that it would bring me joy and provide me with an opportunity to explore nature more closely. As such, I decided to take a trip to the deep south of Thailand for a wildlife photography tour. This was not only an exciting experience to tick off my bucket list, but an opportunity for me to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city, and learn more about the wonders of nature. I was also able to share my experiences with the young students at school, which I found incredibly rewarding.
Another great thing that I experienced living an intentional life is that it helped me to stay focused on what is important. Instead of getting distracted by the daily grind, I was able to focus on the things that truly matters to me. This helped me to stay motivated and stay on track with my personal goals.
Living an intentional life can help to bring joy and contentment to your life. When you are living a life that is in line with what really matters to you, it can bring a sense of satisfaction and peace. It is not always easy, but it can be a rewarding experience. By taking the time to think about what you really want in life, and then taking steps to make it happen, you can create a life that is full of joy, contentment, and peace.
